What is the difference between a Demat account and a trading account?

A Demat account holds your securities, such as shares and mutual fund units, in electronic form. A trading account is used to place buy and sell orders on the exchange. Shares you buy are credited to your Demat account, and shares you sell are debited from it.

What documents are generally required to open a Demat account?

For an individual account you generally need your PAN card, your Aadhaar card with a linked mobile number, and your bank account details. To trade F&O or commodities, you also share income proof, such as the last six months of bank statements through an account aggregator.

Can I apply for IPOs through my Demat and trading account?

Yes. Once your accounts are active you can apply for IPOs with a UPI mandate. If shares are allotted to you, they are credited to your Demat account; allotment depends on the issue and is not guaranteed.
